Founded in 1867 as a private institution, Morgan went public in 1939 and achieved university status in 1976. With a curriculum focused on the social, economic, and political characteristics of urban areas, Morgan uses a range of academic approaches to deliver a superior education to traditional and nontraditional students alike. The Morgan School of Engineering, housed in a new 60,000-square-foot facility, has instructional laboratories and television classrooms with control room satellite up-link and down-link capabilities. Computer facilities are available for instruction and research and provide networking access to computer centers nationwide. As Maryland’s only public urban university, a substantial proportion of Morgan’s research is directed toward urban life and phenomena, with an emphasis on education, service, and public service development.
