Prarie View A&M Hosts AMIE Conference - 10/10/2011

Prairie View A&M University hosted the 17th Annual AMIE Conference, September 7 – 9, 2011, in Houston, Texas, and on the Prairie View campus.  The conference was attended by representatives from corporations, government agencies, and academia.  The theme for this year’s conference was:

“IMPACTING TOMORROW’S WORK FORCE TRANSITION”

Wednesday, September 7th was highlighted by the following speakers/presenters:

  •  Dr. Julian Manly Earls, Executive in Residence – Cleveland State University Ahuja College of Business Administration and the retired Director of the NASA Glenn Research Center
  • David Garnett – President, iAM Solutions
  • Panel discussion on “Expectations for Tomorrow’s Work Force” with Wilbert Paynes-Army Corps of Engineers and Stephanie Hicks-Lockheed Martin.  This panel was moderated by Leslie Chappell-Lockheed Martin
  • Oliver Leslie and Darryl Stokes gave an  update on the “AMIE White Paper”
  • The HBCU Dean’s Roundtable addressed the “Impacting Tomorrow’s Work Force Transition” on how corporate and government agency partners can help them prepare their students to meet future work force needs

Thursday, September 8th was spent on the campus of Prairie View A&M:

  •  Tours of the Engineering Research Labs were conducted in the morning
  • Luncheon Speaker was Major General Suzanne M. “Zan” Vautrinot, Commander 4th Air Force and Air Force Network Operation, U.S. Air Force
  • Afternoon presentations were by the faculty and students of Prairie View A&M University’s College of Engineering
    • Center for Radiation Engineering and Science Development
    • Center of Excellence for Communications and Systems Technology
    • ARO Center for Battlefield Communication Research
    • Center for Energy and Environmental Sustainability
  • Closing Banquet Speaker was Lloyd Howell, Executive Vice President, Booz, Allen Hamilton, 2011 Black Engineer of the Year
